The 10th International Poetry and Literature Festival was held in Istanbul from 3 to 7 October 2017 with the participation of 40 authors from different countries and was devoted to young writers and poets; they were from Turkey, Hungary, Iraq, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Germany, Romania, Ireland, Finland etc. The festival focused on promoting young authors’ and poets’ works, boosting interest in literature and readership among youngsters, providing wider coverage for young and emerging artists and implementing measures to promote them overseas.The festival had two main axes: a) The organizers launched “Istanbul29”, a flagship project that aimed to bring together young authors and poets under the age of 30 from Turkey with their international counterparts and exchange experiences and ideas with a view to successful communication and positive feedback, b) The festival hosted industry professionals, publishers, translators, directors of organizations and institutions that foster literature and international festival directors with the expectation to reaching the abovementioned goals and mainly help young poets promote their books.The International Writers and Translators’ Center of Rhodes was invited by the organizers of the Festival because its contribution to the support of writers and translators is widely acknowledged abroad thanks to its international activities. The IWTCR was represented by Nancy Tryposkoufi and Eleftheria Binikou who participated in a panel discussion on “How do Young Authors Reach International Audiences?” The IWTCR delegates referred to the Residency Programme that gives the opportunity to writers and translators from around the globe to meet and cooperate. They also mentioned that from these encounters often arise translation agreements with translators and publishing houses. Besides, they spoke about the bilingual poetry collections published by the IWTCR aiming to push forward poets writing in small languages, the Greek language included, and finally, they presented the successful “Literary routes: Greece-Turkey” project that included literary encounters among Greek and Turkish children’s book authors held in Rhodes, Istanbul and Izmir in 2015. The project focused on promoting and fostering interest in contemporary Greek literature in Turkey. Finally, it should be noted that the Festival’s president was Adnan Özer, a renowned and awarded Turkish poet, who is also an important translator of Spanish-language poets, such as Federico Garcia Lorca, Pablo Neruda and Octavio Paz.
