MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network is a non-profitable, non-governmental organisation active since 1990, which comprises of 70 'Full Members' who form its annual General Assembly and a dozen of 'Supporting Members'. MedSOS is registered in the Index of NGOs of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Policy guidelines and priorities are drawn from the General Assembly which also elects the 7-member Administration Board. Currently, Ms Klio Monokrousou is the President of the Board.
MedSOS is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development at national and Euro-Mediterranean level, emphasising on the integrated management of marine, coastal and inland water resources, through campaigns, volunteer and environmental education programmes, public events, publications, social media, collaborations on local, national and regional level and numerous national and EU projects. MedSOS works to a. raise public awareness, inform and encourage change in citizens' everyday behaviour that has an impact on the environment; b. advocate, lobby and promote cooperation among social partners, stakeholders and policy-makers on a local, national and regional level, and c. promote active public participation in sustainable development strategies and demonstrate alternative solutions and good practices in local communities.
