CULTURAL WOMEN ASSOCIATION OF THOLARIA AEGIALI AMORGOS

Cultural Women Association of Tholaria-Aegiali, Amorgos
It’s the first women Association established in Amorgos island in 1994, aiming in the promotion and upgrade of women’s position in society, the cultivation of culture and traditions , the protection of the environnent and the facing of all issues arising within their community.

Since then, many cultural and social events have been held, such as the celebration of “Mother’s day” and “Women day” which point out the contribution of every woman as a mother, wife and as a working person, who offers equally with men in society.

Press releases are regularly being sent to media, announcing the various cultural & folklore events of Amorgos.

A yearly Christmas or New Year’s Day celebration is organised .

It contributes to campaigns that have to do with the cleaning of beaches and paths throughout the year and to medical matters that are related to the Health Centre of Amorgos.

It organizes campaigns to all schools of the island regarding recycling and participates in the European week of energy that focuses on subjects such as the protection of the environment and the alternative forms of energy.

Since 2003, it carries out the “International Convention YPERIA for Culture and Tourism”, inviting journalists and well known scientists from all over the world as its guests, showing the history, traditions and cultural actions of Amorgos and the Cyclades worldwide.

The Womens Society also has published an album and produced a documentary called “Meeting the infinite Big Blue : Amorgos – the portrait of an island”, which participated in various film festivals, in several countries .
Since 2009, it organizes the International Amorgos Short Film Festival of Amorgos, which also promotes the tourism of Amorgos and of countries around the world, and it is a member of CIFFT Film Association, based in Vienna..

The association, organizes regularly traditional or classical music concerts.

It has created a dance group with children of ages 12 to 18 years old and owns 12 women and men traditional costumes which are available for use in cultural events throughout the island.
Regularly, it organises a book exhibition and theatrical shows.

It is a member of national cultural organization “Anna Linds Foundation” that is based in Alexandria of Egypt.
It collaborates with the women organizations of the Cyclades Islands exchanging folklore and cultural events.
It is a founding member of the federation of Cycladic Women Society “ The daughters of Cyclades” which was finished in 2014.
